THE SAILOR

Luca Rosetti, born in 1995, is a sailor from Bologna with Romagna origins who has been passionate about the sea and sailing since childhood. He took his first sailing course at the age of 6 at the Savio sailing club, where he discovered his great passion for the sea and navigation.

After years of constant training, Luca began to approach the world of regattas at the age of 10, participating in various competitions in Optimist and Laser classes. After standing out as an athlete, Luca decided to dedicate himself to coaching Laser racing teams, passing on his passion and knowledge to other enthusiasts.

In 2016, Luca had the opportunity to participate in his first offshore race in the Adriatic Sea, where he met Lorenzo Gervaso, owner of the Mini 650 342. From that moment, Luca decided to pursue his dream of crossing the Atlantic Ocean and began taking care of 342, his first Mini.

After three years of intense preparation, Luca participated in the 2019 Mini Transat, where he demonstrated his abilities and determination. Despite some difficulties in the first leg, in the second leg Luca managed to achieve an excellent result, ranking 18th overall and 10th in the leg.

Now, Luca has a new and ambitious project that sees him engaged in France, in Lorient, where he is preparing to compete with a new generation boat. Thanks to the support of several sponsors and the Race=Care team, Luca is ready to challenge the sea and achieve new milestones in his sailing career.

Mini Transat

The Mini Transat is an endurance race that requires maximum sailing navigation skills and technique in solo mode.

Established in 1977, the Mini Transat is a unique race where participants must cross the ocean solo on board boats of only 6 and a half meters, the famous Mini 650. During the race, I will face an oceanic navigation of over 4000 miles in less than a month, passing through the first stage from Les Sables d’Olonne in France to the Canary Islands, and then starting the real adventure towards the Caribbean, in Guadeloupe.

To participate in this challenge, I have dedicated years to my physical and mental preparation, to the knowledge of navigation strategies and meteorological competencies necessary to deal with any situation. In addition to preparation, I have also taken care of the choice of sailing equipment and electronic navigation to face offshore navigation in the most effective way possible.

The Team: RACE=CARE

Luca sails solo, but on land, he has become part of the Italian team Race=Care founded by Luca Del Zozzo. Together, our skippers have decided to use their passion for sailing to support solidarity projects and raise awareness for these important causes.

The R=C project was created to make a difference! Through this project, the team raises funds to help those who are already dedicated to helping others. And the best way to do so is to participate in international sailing competitions where our skippers excel.

CUAMM – Medici con l’Africa since 1950 provides medical assistance to our brothers in the African continent. In order to continue doing so, they need human and financial resources. Join our team to help this important cause and make a positive impact in the world!

Beyond Mini Transat

In September 2022, I had the opportunity to challenge my limits and embark on a great adventure in the ocean, participating in leg 3 of the GLOBE 40 aboard a Class 40. Together with my Japanese racing partner, Masa Suzuki, we tackled one of the most challenging stages of the route, crossing the South Ocean from the island of Mauritius to Auckland, passing through the Indian Ocean and a part of the Pacific. During the crossing, we overcame formidable obstacles such as Cape Leewuin and the famous Bass Strait.

Being an ocean navigator requires a good knowledge of offshore navigation and navigation techniques. I was prepared thanks to my training.

Sailing solo can be challenging, but doing it in pairs made the challenge even more interesting and rewarding. We were able to effectively use our navigation strategies to overcome our competitors and complete the race, arriving in Auckland in second place after 35 days of sailing.

This experience was an exciting test of endurance and skill, and it made me realize even more my passion for water sports and solo sailing.
